How to Win Friends and Influence People: Part 1, Principle 1



This section of the book ask the reader to stop criticizing others and work on themselves first.  Its the old saying, "Before addressing the splinter in your brother's eye, remove the plank from your own."  The write uses historical examples to show how ineffective criticism is.  It is well written and challenges the reader to look within themselves for fault.  I completely agree with this idea.  So many times, I have been angry with a friend, spouse or family member and sat down to write them a letter that would "set them straight."  However, when the letter was finished and I read it to myself as if it had been sent to me, I realized I could never say these things to someone.  I couldn't simply because I know I would never forgive someone who would send it to me
